VSCAN is an emergency notification system that brings information directly to you about urgent events in the Capitol District. Urgent events may include any of the following:
- Hazmat Situation
- Civil disturbances or Demonstrations (Riots)
- Violent or Criminal Behavior (active shooter, etc.)
- Medical and First aid (epidemic or poisoning)
- Severe Weather
- Significant Events (Miscellaneous occurrences)
When an alert is broadcast it will be sent to the device(s) you designate such as email, text message, pager, or smart phone/Blackberry. Multiple devices can be selected depending on your needs.
The system is available at no charge to you. You have the option to choose additional notification groups such as county and city weather groups and university alerts.
Initial enrollment is done by you and later changes can be made through a VSCAN manager.
If you were enrolled in the State Wide Alert Network (SWAN), your information is already included in VSCAN. However, you may want to check to ensure your device information is up to date.
